As an artist, I was interested in making a long term project, thought out and with some sort of symbolism. Before this project, I had almost exclusively made one off drawings when inspiration hit. Therefore, I decided to pick a subject and try and develop it into a fully fledged out set of drawings.
For this project, I chose to go with the theme of the Zodiac signs, that I would attempt to personify into unique and "representative" characters.
The zodiac signs hold a very important place in the daily life of numerous people, and even though I personally do not live my life according to it, it is hard to deny the important of astrology in symbolism. Furthermore, under the common ideas surrounding them, it is easy to dive deeper and find many more themes and symbols to link and differentiate them from each other.
In order to accomplish this the way I envisioned it, I first went through a few phases of research and tests for designs. Subjects like gender, colors, attributes, poses, or props, were aplenty, and I decided to balance them out. For example, gender would be as equally distributed as possible with each signs characteristics, colors would be used to bring together signs of the same "element", and so on.
In the end, I finally ended up with 12 different drawings that symbolized each sign according to my research on what they were supposed to incarnate.
Here are the result, in order of appearance in the Zodiac calendar :
Aries : March 21st to April 20th
Taurus : April 21st to May 20th
Gemini : May 21st to June 20th
Cancer : June 21st to July 22nd
Leo : July 23rd to August 22nd
Virgo : August 23rd to September 22nd
Libra : September 23rd to October 22nd
Scorpio : October 23rd to November 21st
Sagittarius : November 22nd to December 21st
Capricorn : December 22nd to January 19th
