Creatuanary Challenge - Instagram

Creatuanary is an online drawing challenge, borrowing from the Inktober concept (see Inktober Challenge post), which takes place over the month of January every year. The concept is simple, a list of 31 prompts consisting of creatures and characters to draw and redesign as we see fit. All participants are then expected to draw the corresponding prompt each day of the month. Additionally, 4 of the prompts are kept secret until the very day of their index, forcing artists to train quick designing and improvised concepts.

This allows for an exploration of unknown myths and creatures from foreign cultures, as well as the designing of creatures based off of often vague prompts or ambiguous description, encouraging creative designing.

In my case, I have participated in Creatuanary since January 2020, and have done my best to stick to the daily drawings in January ever since. It has helped me a lot in developing a style and new ways to create monsters and creatures for worldbuilding ideas.
